Registration opens February 8
at 9:30 am for Current Spring 2010 Registrants at CHAW and February 15 at 9:30 am for the general public. No early registrations will be accepted.

(sorry, online registration is not available for summer camps)

Please note:

  • Campers must turn 5 by June 1, 2010 and have completed a year of kindergarten (or educational equivalent) or to participate in Summer Arts Adventure Camp.
  • Pre-K campers ages 4 & 5 are eligible for Jr. Arts Adventure Camp
  • Registrations must be accompanied by a behavior contract and medical form in order to be processed.

Camp Schedule

Morning Sessions
9:00am - 1:00pm
Morning campers rotate daily through classes in visual art, ceramics, music & movement and recreation that explore the cultural and artistic traditions of New Mexico, Madagascar, Spain and Australia through hands-on activities.

Afternoon Sessions
1:30pm - 5:00 or 5:30pm
Afternoon campers choose from Recreation Camp or one of five arts specialty camps that focus intensively on Photography, Rock & Roll, Musical Theater or Ceramics.
  • Students must be 7 years old (unless otherwise noted) by June 1, 2010 to participate in specialty arts camps. Recreation Camp is open to children ages 5 (see age requirements) - 13.
  • Students who enroll in Afternoon Recreation Camp must also be registered for Morning Arts Camp.
  • Please note, full day campers eat lunch from 1:00pm - 1:30pm. Lunch is not provided.

    Recreation Camp

    Campers enjoy trips to the swimming pool, parks, museums, local attractions, and more. Please note campers must be signed up for a morning session to participate in the afternoon Recreation Camp

    Photography Camp
    Session I - $347
    June 21 - July 1 (no camp July 2)
    Ages 7 - 13
    1:30-5:30 pm

    This is a great introduction to both black + white and digital photography. Camp will cover the basics of pinhole photography, b+w photography, darkroom printing and computers/digital photography. Additional projects may be explored based on the students interest and backgrounds in photography.

    Musical Theater Review
    Session I - $385
    June 21 - July 1 (no camp July 2)
    Ages 7 - 12
    1:30-5:30 pm


    Sing dance, and act your way through several decades of your favorite Broadway music. In this intensive survey of musical theater, students will learn scenes and production numbers from a wide variety of Broadway shows and learn the ins and outs of prop and costume design. Camp culminates with two public performances at CHAW. Instructor, Dr. Thea Kano

    Ceramics Camp
    Session II - $385
    July 5 - 16
    Ages 7 - 12
    1:30 - 5:30 pm

    Learn to make cups, bowls, plates, mugs, and more! Campers will use various ceramic methods such as hand building, slabs and coils wih molds, and pottery wheels to make utilitarian pottery. No prior ceramics experience necessary. Instructor, Jeremy Huth

     

    Musical Theater Production
    Session III - $385
    July 19-July 30
    Ages 10 – 14 (by audition)
    1:30 – 5:30 pm


    Learn the artistic and technical aspects of musical theater through a fully staged musical theater production. Open to young actors, ages10-14, with a love of musical theater and performing. No preparation needed. Songs and choreography will be taught at the audition. Call 202-547-6839 to schedule. Director, Dr. Thea Kano

    Rock n' Roll Camp
    Session IV - $385
    August 2-August 13
    Ages 8 - 14
    1:30-5:30 pm

    Campers form a rock band and learn to jam with other musicians. Create a set list, explore the role of each performer’s instrument, and discover the importance of listening carefully to fellow band mates as you rock out to the classics.  Improve your instrumental and vocal technique as well as your improv skills while preparing a set for our big show! Rock n’ Roll camp participants must be at least eight years old and have previous experience with a musical instrument.  Instructor, Matt Dievendorf
