THEATER WORKSHOP
Performance Mythography: An Introduction to Solo Performance
Jacqueline E. Lawton
This course invites the solo performer in you to write and perform a five to ten-minute solo performance that utilizes: 1) a story based on something that happened to you; 2) a largely imagined story with moments from your life woven into the basic structure of the tale or 3) an adaptation of somebody else's life story, either fictional or historical. The end result will be a short original performance text that you write and perform as a solo artist. For some, this may become a platform for learning teaching techniques; for others, it may be a chance to participate in an area of theatre that is new to them; and for others still, the final push forward toward what you REALLY want to do. For all, I hope this will be an opportunity for self-examination and a chance to observe the human condition through drama.
