Youth Arts Program

This innovative afterschool arts program provides students ages 5 - 12* with a high-quality arts education in a unique, multidisciplinary environment. Students create their own schedule, chosing from a wide range of classes in visual and performing arts taught by faculty who are outstanding artists in their fields and who love to teach. Each semester ends with a gallery show and performance demonstrating work created in class.
Age Requirements
All students must be at least five years old by August 24, 2009 and enrolled in Kindergarten to participate in the Youth Arts Program. *Twelve year olds turning thirteen during the semester are welcome to participate.
Calendar
The Spring 2010 session of classes will run for 22 weeks from Monday, January 4 through Friday, June 11, 2010. There will be no classes on the following days:
Monday, January 18, 2010 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Monday, February 15, 2010 - President's Day
Monday, March 29 - April 2, 2010 - DCPS Spring Break
Monday, May 31, 2010 - Memorial Day
Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 4:00 -5:00pm and 5:00 - 6:00 pm and on Fridays from 4-5:30.
Artists Showcase
At the end of each semseter, students display and perform their work for family, friends and each other at the Artists Showcase. Showcases are held from 5:30 - 6:30 (unless otherwise noted):
June 4, 2010 for 5- 7 year olds
June 11, 2010 for 8 and up.
Registration and Financial Aid
- Registration opens at 9:30 am on Monday, November 16, 2009 for current students and Monday, November 23, 2009 for the general public. Registrations received before November 16, 2009 will not be processed.
- Financial aid is available. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
- Registrations submitted prior to November 23, 2009 must be via hard copy. Students applying for tuition assistance should also submit their registrations and tuition assistance applications via hard copy.
