Hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away.

Ballet II (4 – 6 years, child only) Students build on techniques and concepts from Ballet I. Greater emphasis on performance practices and complexity of combinations.

Pre-Ballet I (3 – 5 years, child only) Students learn to express themselves with the art of dance and creative movement using an array of games, stories and songs to build upon and improve the development of motor skills and coordination. This class is for children with no experience or who have completed one session of Pre-Ballet I.

Pre-Ballet II (3 – 5 years, child only) Students expand their knowledge of basic ballet techniques, while diving deeper into the fundamentals of dance with easy-to-follow steps and level appropriate dance combinations. Students must have completed at least two sessions of Pre-Ballet I to enroll, on the advice of the instructor.

Pre Ballet III (3 – 5 years, child only) Students expand movement vocabulary and coordination. Complexity of steps and difficulty of technique increases with level appropriate ballet combinations. Students must have completed at least two sessions of Pre-Ballet II to enroll, or on the advice of the instructor.

Ballet I 4 – 6 years, child onlyThe movement vocabulary in this class will expand, as well as the level of steps and technique. Students will learn the importance of that which is taught, along with coordination and level appropriate ballet combinations.

Advanced drawing students build on the skills developed in the first hour of class through participation in an extended class session.

Stretch your imagination while learning the foundational techniques of drawing and 2D media by exploring a wide array of art subjects, styles, concepts and materials.

Learn basic and intermediate hand sewing skills, embroidery, weaving and knitting techniques.

From the pyramids of Egypt to the Washington Monument, monumental architecture has a long-standing tradition. Learn the basics of architecture design through a series of design studies, culminating in the design of a ‘new’ monument for downtown D.C.

Make sculpture inspired by stories full of visually interesting characters, places and objects from Aztec, Mayan and Incan civilizations.

Create wizard trading cards, write fan fiction, cast spells, mix potions, make wands, maps, dioramas of Diagon Alley and reenact your favorite scenes as you delve deep into the world of Harry and the cast at Hogwarts. No wizarding or Harry Potter experience required.

Interpret different artistic styles and movements while experimenting with ink, watercolors and non-traditional 2-dimensional techniques. Abstraction and the 2nd half of the 20th century art will be the source of inspiration.

Create props, backdrops, and costumes that represent the sea and its creatures, which will be both fun stand-alone art projects as well as the materials for a short movie made about the ocean. Using clay, paint, papier-mache, and recyclable materials students will practice creativity and valuable craft techniques while learning about important ecosystems.

Improve vocal singing technique and build basic music skills while preparing solo and ensemble repertoire ranging in style from classical to Broadway. Some experience helpful.

Build a love of music through song, movement, games and instruments. Learn the elements of music, musical forms and styles in this highly interactive environment.

Expand your knowledge of basic ballet techniques, vocabulary and performance then apply your skills to choreographing your own dance combination. This class is appropriate for students with at least two semesters of Ballet I experience or by permission of the instructor.

Experiment with a variety of media from graphite to charcoal while strengthening fundamental concepts of drawing and encouraging imagination. Returning students will build up on previous knowledge to develop new projects.

Through digital and darkroom techniques, become a practiced expert in one genre of photography. Whether it's portraiture, documentary, nature, still life, find which subject excites you and work to develop your own personal style as a photographer.

Bring fantastical creatures to life! Write and perform short skit, build props and costumes, explore elements of character development through narrative.

Explore the work of a revolutionary author and illustrator of such books as Where the Wild Things Are, Alligators All Around and Chicken Soup with Rice! We will read works written or illustrated by Maurice Sendak and then spin them out into visual and experiential presentations using a variety of art and movement.

Transform your outfits into something more unique! How about adding a detachable collar to your favorite shirt? Or updating a t-shirt with a pocket made from a colorful fabric? Using simple dying techniques, beading, fabric, paint, needle and thread make plain clothes, works of art!

Make art inspired by nature and using natural materials. Make natural paper, experimenting with shapes, colors and materials found in nature.

Through the art of cartooning create your own characters, stories, comic strips, and design your own illustrator storyboard!

Find out what happens when characters from different fairytales meet each other in new locations! This class incorporates storytelling, drama and dance into one creative arts adventure.

From rehearsal to performance, students will learn how to interpret a script, create a character, and move on the stage. Prepare and share a short one act performance for family and friends at the end of the semester.

Mixing paint, blending pastels and collaging tissue paper are just some of the techniques children will learn to create projects that encourage exploration of color, color uses and responses

Expand your clay repertoire and improve your ceramic hand building and wheel work.

Develop your filmmaking skills as the class collaborates to create a short film. Previous movie making class at CHAW required.

Cam Jansen solves community mysteries using her photographic memory. Read and discuss these beloved early chapter books giving special attention to visual and plot clues. We will write our own mystery about CHAW including both types of clues as we write and illustrate.

Music Together, the popular music and movement class for children aged 0-5 and the adults who love them, is now offering their program in Italian!

Explore the diverse layers and expressions of photography through collage. Dig out your old family photos, travel pictures and candid’s and discover the secrets embedded within each moment. This class will teach the basics of collage and open up discussion about the photographic process, how it transforms our deepest memories into unique works of art. No photography experience necessary.

Take better pictures by learning the technical and creative basics of digital photography including use of apertures, shutter speeds, depth of field, motion effects, lenses, exposure modes, exposure compensation, histograms, image recording quality, white balance, and more.

Harmonica II will consolidate the work you have already done on improvisation, tune playing and chugging at the first workshop and move on to the fundamental blues technique of note bending. Participants will need a 10-hole diatonic harmonica in C. Prior attendance at Harmonica Beginners I is recommended but not essential.

In this workshop, we will be working on building the skills of rhythm and timing, by learning songs by Bob Marley, The Beatles, U2, and others. The focus of this one-day workshop will be building up your repertoire of songs, chords and techniques by playing together as a group. You will begin to understand the concept of keys, and how chord progressions (familiar sequences of chords) can open up hundreds of songs for you to play.You will be gently invited (but not forced) to sing in this workshop.

This is an opportunity for artists to work on drawings or paintings in front of a live model in a session without an instructor. Please bring your own drawing materials. Easels are available.

Learn the guitar by playing popular songs by artists from around the world as well as some training in Blues, improvisation, basic music theory and guitar notation.

Develop your skills by learning new scales, new chords with extensions, rhythms, styles, and guitar notation.

This class is designed for beginning and intermediate painting students. With an emphasis on material handling, value and color theory, students will learn to paint from a simple, but challenging still life. Students will complete one painting during the 6-week class. All materials are supplied. Students should wear old clothes and bring a roll of paper towels

Learn the steps to design and create earrings, necklaces and simple thread bracelets.

From hand building to wheel work this class provides you with the opportunity to learn and practice basic ceramic techniques.

This Luigi Technique inspired class will include warm-ups, stretching and technique building with a focus on exercises across the floor and new combinations for each class to learn, execute and perfect.
