This week was an exploration of color. We looked at color relationships and everyone followed a set of written instructions to create very different paintings. The purpose was to see what happens when complementary and analogous colors are juxtaposed, what happens when they are overpainted and how to use those properties to create some excitement and tension in a painting. Everyone had the option of adding detail using oil sticks, and creating texture by scratching, dripping rubbing alcohols on wet acrylic and drawing back into the piece with charcoal.
I think these works speak to how each person in the classes has a vision and a voice of their own. As an instructor I am always so impressed by the insights that students bring to their work. And energy! I had such a nice time watching these develop.
