I love the sip and paint class as a way for people to try wielding a brush for the first time, or maybe just the first time in a long time. Folks in DC have such high pressure, stressful day jobs and seem to crave a chance to use their hands creatively. To many a full blown art class seems too intimidating, but a two-hour, guided paint and sip with wine might just be doable.
Of course once I get them in the class, I hope that students have such a wonderful time and feel so good about the experience that they do want to come back for more. And we help them find ways to get more art in their lives. It can be painting or ceramics, photography or ballet, just some way to use that right brain and shake off the stress of the day.
From my corner of the art room, I think that’s what CHAW is all about—helping people connect with the creative.
