OIL PAINTING BASICS AND BEYOND

Beginners will get an introduction to material handling, safety and basic color theory and will learn to paint from a simple, but challenging still life. Experienced and continuing painting students will learn techniques to refine their skills and paint from more complex subject matter. All materials are supplied. Students should wear old clothes and bring one roll of paper towels.

Drawing Nature and Landscapes

In this workshop students will have the opportunity of taking a closer look at the outside world. Assignments will stress observation of plants, flowers and other natural elements while offering different alternatives to represent the larger view of outdoor scenes. A variety of materials and techniques will be explored.

How to turn a circle into a sphere? This workshop is an introduction to fundamental shading and lighting techniques. The study of Rembrandt, Caravaggio and others will be the starting point for the development of an individual style that will allow you to take your drawings to the next level.

Study the human figure, still-life drawing and other important subject matters through assignments that explore the minds of master artists such as Pablo Picasso and the impressionists among others.

LIFE DRAWING

Working from nude models students will develop accuracy and expressiveness in rendering the human figure. Instruction customized for each student and complemented with theory and examples in art history. Prior drawing experience required. New students should bring an 18x24 newsprint pad, an 18x24 Strathmore Drawing pad, kneaded eraser, and extra soft vine charcoal to the first class.
