Exhibition

All adult students of all ability levels are welcome and encouraged to participate in gallery shows of student work held annually in June and December.  These shows also offer an opportunity for students to sell their work.

Residencies

CHAW offers two juried gallery residencies per year.  Each is 5 - 6 weeks in length.  The residency consists of a show comprised of both finished pieces and site specific work created in the gallery, artist talks, demonstrations, and/or workshops.  Resident artists are selected through an application process each spring for the following year.

Workshops

CHAW hosts monthly social arts events from, paint and sip and crafting to juggling and mind reading.  Ad hoc technique workshops such as encaustic art, printmaking, portfolio review, and plein air painting, are available for more advanced students and professional artists.  More casual workshop offerings for the beginner have included flower arranging, stencils and spray paint, and sumi-e calligraphy.

OPEN DRAWING STUDIO

CHAW offers a bi-weekly open drawing studio with a live model.  Easels are provided.

Capitol Hill Art League

The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) is a visual arts program of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop with members drawn from the surrounding neighborhood, the city and the region. CHAL produces six juried exhibits and one non-juried holiday sale from September to May through which members can exhibit and sell their work. Exhibits are displayed at both the Gallery in CHAW as well as at external venues throughout the DC region.
