Are you mad or glad or feeling sad? Say it with poetry! In this workshop series we will read some classic and contemporary poets to see how they express feelings. We will look at their use of poetic forms such as haiku, the ballad stanza and free verse, and such poetic devices as alliteration, rhyme and figurative language, to help us compose our own poems. The series begins with an introductory Saturday morning workshop followed by three Wednesday afternoon sessions. Techniques and exercises will be presented in the opening session (drop in rate of $20); the three more focused sessions will offer deeper opportunities for writing, sharing and revising more polished poems (tuition is $120). Nancy is professor emerita at the United States Naval Academy, and the author of Spirit Hovering: Poems and Wild Washington: Animal Sculpture A to Z.
