CHAW kids on Zoom

The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) Youth Arts Program is a dynamic curriculum of classes, performance, and exhibition opportunities emphasizing arts as a way of life for a lifetime. Students in the Youth Arts Program (YAP) develop a unique artistic voice as they explore and create dance and art in community with their peers. This fall, we are taking that same community-grown afterschool program and putting it online so no matter where students are they can join safely and easily.

Themed Weeks
Much like our summer camps, each week of after school programming will have an overarching theme in which Teaching Artists will interpret in the form of visual arts and performing arts. By Friday, students will have finished pieces of art and have a sense of pride in working toward a cumulative goal with their classmates.

Online Classes
All classes are taught by professional artists and teachers and facilitated over Zoom. Students will be supported by staff to creatively problem solve and work collaboratively in a group atmosphere. Students will receive a welcome pakage before their first day which will include supplies and a parent guide for continued learning for the entire family. Class sizes range from 5 - 15 students. Schedule subject to change. Classes require min. of 5 students to run.

Village Time
Included in registration. Ms. Shahidah will greet students each day in an open and encouraging atmosphere designed to spark excitement for classes and build friendships between students. Exercises and discussions will center around mindfulness, team-building games, and celebrating milestones. Ms. Cecilia will be our special guest each Friday for fun games and read-alongs. This is not a stand-alone class.

Van Service
CHAW van service has been suspended for the time being. We will reevaluate this when students return to in-person school days.
