The holidays are upon us and the to-do lists are growing. Just in time for the melee, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is offering short workshops to make and give great art!
For the months of November and December, CHAW is hosting a series of one, three, and four-week workshops in the visual and performing arts. These shorter format classes allow students to quickly learn or expand on their artistic skills and are perfect for holiday preparations and gift giving.
Want to surprise your family with a festive song at your next family gathering? Join British harmonica guru Con O’Neill for a one-day “Harmonica I” workshop on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 10:00 am to 2:45 pm. In this fun and accessible four-hour workshop, students will receive an introduction to playing tunes, blues improvisation, and basic music theory.
“By the end of the day, students can play a simple tune, make their harmonica sound like a steam train, and have played their first blues solo,” says Con. “My expectations from the Harmonica I workshop are to watch people learn, enjoy themselves, and meet some great new people. I am never disappointed.”
Or why not get the creativity flowing and your hands dirty while creating a gift for mom or dad or yourself? Lindsey Walter leads a four-week “Decorative Plates and Platters” workshop beginning Monday, November 19, 2012. “It’s perfect for gift giving or adding to your own collection of ceramic dishware,” says Walter.
Students will learn from start to finish how to create and decorate large platters using glazes, stains, stamps, and patterns. “This class is open to all levels and no ceramics experience is necessary,” says Lindsey. “More focus will be on the coloring of the piece so it is perfect for painters and 2d visual artists who haven’t worked with clay before.”
Other workshops include Ceramic Ornaments, Playing with Paint, Bookmaking, Printmaking, Sip and Paint, Digital Photography, Madrigals and Carols and more. Students can also prepare for the hustle and bustle in a drop-in fitness class including Zumba and Pilates. As always, CHAW offers flexible payment plans and tuition assistance.
In addition to the workshops, CHAW also has gift certificates in any amount for classes and private music lessons.
CHAW is located at 545 7th Street, SE and has been building community though the arts for over 40 years. For more information on CHAW’s upcoming workshops or other classes and events, please visitwww.chaw.org or call (202) 547-6839
