Our featured CHAL artist, Ken Bachman, creates picturesque interpretations of the world around us. His ability to produce work that not only renders itself to the splendor of our surroundings, but in his own words, "defines a moment of special beauty in a specific time and place." Ken's paintings are truly a work of art; capturing the eye through his exquist use of light and movement, and cultivating a sense of personal expereience and special moments in all of us. Please enjoy this short and sweet look into the Artist's Mind: Ken Bachman.
Although my time for painting was limited during my career as a partner in a leading international law firm, I have always enjoyed, studied and practiced art since my childhood in Paris. I recently completed the three-year program in oil painting at the Compass Atelier where I remain an active alum.
I believe that each painting should create a work that is interesting and fresh. I have always been attracted to naturalistic representational art. I draw on my extensive travels throughout my life for scenes that particularly speak to me, as I hope they will to others. Each place inspires me differently and generates a distinctive response in my composition and palette. I am drawn to landscapes where the light, shadow and color define a moment of special beauty in a specific time and place.
My home is in Bethesda, Maryland. Currently, Hill Center Galleries is presenting a solo show of over 20 of my oil paintings. Recently, one of my paintings received first place in the regional Vessels exhibition at CHAL and another received second place in an earlier exhibit there. Paintings of mine have received awards from jurors from the National Gallery of Art and Smithsonian American Art Museum among several others. My works have been exhibited throughout the Washington metropolitan area, including in shows at Glen Echo, Kensington, the Maryland Federation of Art, Capitol Hill Art League, Hill Center Galleries and New Masters Art Gallery. I am also an authorized Copyist at the National Gallery of Art
