Monday

Ceramics Clay Basics —  (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist: Nadia Malik

Projects will cover hand building, developing textures, and possibly an introduction to wheel throwing. Students will work together and independently to explore art in clay.

Art:  Weaving Techniques — (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist: Sara Leonard

This semester, join us in exploring weaving using a variety of techniques and materials. Students will learn about a variety of weaving techniques from around the world and then practice them with paper, fabric, and alternative materials in order to better understand the processes and materials. Students will complete several take home finished objects for use or display.

Tuesday

Art Drawing Techniques  — (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist: Carolina Mayorga

Projects in all classes encourage creativity and imagination while providing foundational knowledge and skills building using a wide variety of traditional and contemporary drawing techniques and materials. Spanish speakers welcome!

 Art:  Character Design & Storytelling Basics  — (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist: Blas Goncalves-Borrega

Students will design multiple characters and take them through change(s) to discover principles of storytelling. First, we will discover design principles as we design our characters. Next, we will take our character(s) through a change that will require more design, and, more importantly storytelling and beat following.

Art: 3D Sculptures — (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist: Carolina Mayorga

This is an exploration of art and design concepts, styles, and inspiration found throughout history provides a rich context for student discovery and development in 3-dimensional media. Spanish speakers welcome!

Art Cartooning   — (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist: Blas Goncalves-Borrega

This class will focus primarily on shape language, proportion, and composition, with a little emphasis on anatomy, layout and perspective. The young artists will be able to create stories and characters that they can share with classmates and families.

Thursday

Art: Art Styles — (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist: Sara Leonard

During this class, young artists will dive into an exploration of the Pop Art movement. We will look at the art and processes of various artists and build our own art and work through their inspiration. We will use a variety of materials in 2- and 3-d. We will complete several studies in practice and end with a variety of completed take home art pieces.

Theater: Intro to Creative Expression — (K-2nd, 3rd-5th)

Teaching Artist:  Jose Rufino

Local actor and teaching artist, Jose Rufino will inspire and guide your little ones in the fundamentals of theater! In this class your tiny people will learn the basics of theater through games and play. The goal is fun first, getting students on their feet, and building a world full of characters and possibilities. They’ll be learning acting & theatrical collaborative skills through a variety of exercises & activities, which will be the building blocks for your future thespian!
